SBIRSmall Business Innovation Research
United States federal R&D programme that contracts directly with small businesses to develop dual-use technology — typically Phase I (feasibility), Phase II (prototype), Phase III (transition to production). Run by 11 federal agencies including DoD, NASA, DHS, AFWERX.

At Dronehub: Dronehub Inc. (Delaware C-Corp) is SBIR-eligible — direct contracting pathway for US DoD components evaluating non-adversarial drone infrastructure.

STTRSmall Business Technology Transfer
Sister programme to SBIR. Requires the small business to partner with a research institution (university or federal lab). Same Phase I/II/III structure, same agencies.

At Dronehub: Dronehub uses STTR pathways for joint programmes with US universities and federal labs around counter-UAS and autonomous navigation.

EDFEuropean Defence Fund
EU's €8 billion (2021-2027) instrument for collaborative defence R&D. Funds cross-border consortia of EU defence industry, SMEs, research bodies. Annual work programmes set categories: c-UAS, ISR, autonomy, sovereignty.

At Dronehub: Dronehub Sp. z o.o. is EDF-eligible. Sovereign supply chain + EU domicile + non-adversarial bill-of-materials = clean fit for sovereignty-driven calls.

EDAEuropean Defence Agency
Brussels-based EU agency under the Council that supports member states in capability development and joint defence R&D. Runs the CBRN, counter-UAS, and other multinational programmes.

At Dronehub: Dronehub scored 98/100 on the EDA CBRN counter-UAS programme — joint with ESA, the first-ever ESA + EDA programme with an SME.

Inter-governmental agency of 22 member states for space exploration and downstream applications. Funds dual-use programmes via ARTES, Business Applications, and joint instruments with EDA.

NDAA Section 848National Defense Authorization Act, Section 848
US federal-procurement clause restricting DoD purchase of Chinese-made drones and drone components from covered foreign entities (PRC, Russia, Iran, North Korea). Tightens earlier Section 889 prohibitions specifically for unmanned aircraft systems.

c-UASCounter Unmanned Aircraft Systems
Detection, identification, tracking, and neutralisation of hostile drones. Methods range from RF detection, radar, EO/IR sensors (passive) to RF jamming, GNSS spoofing, kinetic interception, and net capture (active).

At Dronehub: Dronehub's AUDROS programme is a kinetic-net-capture c-UAS system — the active layer that complements detection. Scored 98/100 on the EDA CBRN c-UAS programme.

BVLOSBeyond Visual Line of Sight
Drone operations where the remote pilot cannot see the aircraft unaided. Required for any economically viable autonomous inspection, delivery, or surveillance mission — but heavily regulated (EASA in EU, FAA Part 108 in US).

At Dronehub: Drone-in-a-box is inherently a BVLOS deployment. Dronehub deploys under EU U-space and engages with FAA Part 108 rulemaking via SBIR programmes.

OS-NMAGalileo Open Service Navigation Message Authentication
Cryptographic signature of the navigation data broadcast by the EU's Galileo GNSS constellation. Free, open service. Lets a receiver verify the satellite-position data is authentic — defeats GPS-spoofing by adversary EW.

At Dronehub: Dronehub's HUUVER was the first UAV in the world to integrate full Galileo OS-NMA — sovereign-navigation credential for contested-environment operations.

U-space
EU regulatory framework (Commission Implementing Regulation 2021/664) for managing low-altitude airspace where drones operate. Defines U-space service providers, geographical zones, network identification, geo-awareness. Operational since 2023.

At Dronehub: Dronehub flew first in the Honeywell-led U-Space4UAM consortium — empirical data fed directly into U-space regulation and FAA Part 108 rulemaking analogues.

DIANADefence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic
NATO programme launched 2023 for fast-tracking dual-use technology from defence innovators across the alliance. Funds Phase I (feasibility) and Phase II (pilot) at NATO-accelerator sites — Brussels, Cambridge, Boulder, Tallinn, others.

EDISEuropean Defence Industrial Strategy
EU strategy adopted 2024 to strengthen the European defence industrial base. Targets include 50% of EU defence procurement from EU sources by 2030 and 40% from collaborative procurement. Tilts public money toward sovereign suppliers.

EU's €95.5 billion (2021-2027) research and innovation framework programme. Cluster 4 covers digital + industry + space; Cluster 5 covers climate + energy + mobility. Distinct from EDF — civilian R&D rather than defence.

At Dronehub: HUUVER was funded under Horizon 2020 (predecessor). Dronehub uses Horizon Europe Cluster 4 calls for dual-use civilian R&D that feeds the defence pipeline.

NCBRPolish National Centre for Research and Development
Polish government R&D funding agency — roughly comparable to the US DARPA in defence and to NSF/NIH in civilian science. Funds applied R&D for Polish SMEs, including dual-use drone programmes.

At Dronehub: Multiple Dronehub programmes were NCBR-funded: HUUVER, UAV Nomad, Airvein. Polish track record that travels to EDF and DIANA contexts as SME credibility.

Autonomous drone deployment system where the aircraft, charging infrastructure, and command logic are integrated into a fixed or mobile enclosure. Drone takes off, completes mission, lands, and recharges with no operator in the loop.

At Dronehub: Dronehub's flagship product line. Drone Industry Insights named Dronehub a global category leader for drone-in-a-box. Deployed at national scale with Deutsche Bahn.
